advocacy through education.
The Northern Rivers Naturists Inc are a not-for-profit organisation of community-minded naturists located throughout the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales, Australia.
Formerly known as the ‘Byron Naturists’, the group was established in 2017. With a growing community across the wider region, NRN are dedicated to representing naturists around the Northern Rivers and advocating for the rights of our community.
As well as bringing the naturist community together through organised events, advocacy and activism concerning local naturist campaigns, we are also committed to educating the public about the naturist lifestyle in an effort to normalise the naturist culture within the wider community.
Who are we?
Our values.
-
Respect
We stand for respecting ourselves, others and the environment. Respect is a foundational value that every genuine naturist embodies and a core value that we expect of those within our community.
-
Inclusion & Diversity
We welcome people from all different backgrounds to join our community. We are LGBTQIA+ friendly and family-friendly. We embrace all different body types, size, ability, colour, age and gender. We want for everybody to feel welcomed and valued in our community.
-
Equality
We believe that everybody should have equal opportunity and access to this empowering lifestyle; and we strive to ensure that we provide a supportive space and friendly community for people looking to get involved.
-
Body Positive Culture
In the naturist lifestyle, we are exposed to bodies of all different shapes, colours, ages, sizes and abilities…not only what is promoted in society as ‘ideal’. This exposure to REAL bodies is what helps to foster improved body image and self-acceptance.
-
Education
We are committed to empowering people by providing information about the lifestyle in a way that is fun, authentic and informative. We are dedicated to informing others about what it means to be a naturist as a way to promote the lifestyle and advance more clothing-optional recreation.
Our Current Campaign.
Our current priority as an organisation is to re-establish a clothing-optional (CO) beach in the Byron Shire so that our community may continue to have a safe and legal space to to be able to enjoy a skinny-dip without the risk of being fined.
Up until 31 August 2024, Tyagarah’s CO beach had been Byron’s famed and only legal nude beach since 1998.
In launching our ‘Bring Back Byron’s Nude Beach’ campaign, we will be engaging with Council, policymakers, local businesses and the general public to advance our cause in securing a CO beach for our community.
Through organised events, rallies, peaceful protests and meetings, our advocacy efforts will require the support of our community, and educating the wider public about the naturist lifestyle will prove to be more important than ever if we are to secure their camaraderie.
