Since 2017.
Who are we?
The Northern Rivers Naturists are not-for-profit organisation of community-minded naturists located throughout the Northern Rivers region of New South Wales, Australia.
Formerly known as the ‘Byron Naturists, the group was established in 2017. With a growing community across the wider region, NRN are dedicated to representing naturists around the Northern Rivers and advocating for the rights of our community.
A region once famed for its progressive values and attitudes and alternative lifestyles…we continue to represent, reflect and promote these values.
As well as bringing the naturist community together through organised events, advocacy and activism concerning local naturist campaigns, we are also committed to educating the public about the naturist lifestyle in an effort to normalise the naturist culture within the wider community.
We believe that everybody, no matter size, colour, age, ability, sexual orientation or gender, has the right to a safe space and supportive community where we are afforded experiences and environments that allow us the opportunity to choose a more empowering relationship with our bodies and the environment…and this is exactly what the naturist lifestyle offers.
In our efforts to progress the lifestyle, we are dedicated to growing our community; and we welcome you to join us on our mission to promote a more body-positive culture in which true representation, diversity and equality are the standard, not the exception.
Our pillars.
Equality.
We believe that everybody should have equal opportunity and access to this empowering lifestyle; and we strive to ensure that we provide a safe space for people looking to get involved.
Respect.
We stand for respecting ourselves, others and the environment. Respect is a foundational value that every genuine naturist embodies and a core value that we expect of those within our community.
Inclusion & Diversity.
We welcome people from all different backgrounds to join our community. We are LGBTQIA+ friendly and family-friendly. We embrace all different body types, size, ability, colour, age and gender. We want for everybody to feel welcomed and valued in our community.
Body positive culture.
In the naturist lifestyle, we are exposed to bodies of all different shapes, colours, ages, sizes and abilities…not only what is promoted in society as ‘ideal’. This exposure to REAL bodies is what helps to foster improved body image and self-acceptance.
Education.
We are committed to empowering people by providing information about the lifestyle in a way that is fun, authentic and informative. We are dedicated to informing others about what it means to be a naturist as a way to promote the lifestyle and advance more clothing-optional recreation.
Promoting non-sexual social nudity.
In a world that sexualises the human body, we strive to educate the public about the concept of ‘non-sexual nudity’. We believe it is of utmost importance and significance that people have the opportunity to experience their bodies and nudity in a safe and respectful space, away from society’s sexualised gaze, where they have the opportunity to redefine how they relate to their body in order to choose a more empowering path.
